THIS WAS THEN....
SnowShed Family Home Life
Welcome to Snowshed, which is the name our house came with when we bought it. We are the third owners of this home. It was the second owner, Dr. Bernbach, who loved Snowshed, VT and decided to name the house after this town, do to it’s unusual architecture. The house it self is located on part of the old Ed Sullivan estate. Apparently, Ed Sullivan used to travel from NY to Southbury on weekends where he had a home on huge parcel of land. In August of 1956, he had a horrific car accident on Route 84, which was then a single one lane highway and almost died. He refused to return up to Southbury, CT ever again and sold the property.
It is a modest little house but as I said, is not like the typical homes in CT. Why? Because it iis "A" frame with lots of knee walls and odd spaces. Think Swiss Chalet style but with a more unique interior kind of like a colonial layout but
The house itself is surrounded by extensive gardens that my husband and I have worked on since we moved here on October 13, 1999. To begin with the owner had many over grown gardens and then we came here from a rental home in Ridgefield, CT with over 450 plants. In fact, we got married on our property, 10 months after we moved in. The grounds provide a soothing and relaxing place to wander or just sit. And our 6 cats, 2 dogs, chickens and fish just add to the ambiance.
